It’s that time of year again… winter dating!
I prefer winter dating. I’m more of a fan of the cold as opposed to the heat. I’m just not a huge fan of sweating unless I’m at the gym. With the snow beginning to fall, and all the winter markets about to take place, it’s time for a run down of some of the best date ideas for the winter season. Here are my Top 5 Winter Date Ideas in the GTA!
1. Tree Lighting Celebrations
There are two tree lighting celebrations in the GTA that I’ve attended and I absolutely adore them. Firstly, the Cavalcade of Lights in Toronto. This year it takes place on Saturday November 24th from 6pm-10pm. The tree lights at 7:30pm, and if you stick around a little longer you get a spectacular fireworks show. I went on a date to this Cavalcade a couple of years ago (okay, 6 years ago, shh) and we had a great time. The second tree lighting I enjoy is the one in my hometown – Light Up The Square in Mississauga at Celebration Square. Unfortunately, it falls on the same weekend as the Cavalcade, so it all depends on how much of an adventure you want to go on! The tree will light at 7pm in Mississauga.Photo: City of Mississauga
I know this sounds pretty basic, but you don’t quite understand how much fun it can be. Skating around a rink, indoor or outdoor, holding the hand of someone you’re totally crushing on (or, depending on which stage of your relationship is in, loving on), is fun. It’s one of those winter activities that I think is great for dating because you can always play the “Oh I can’t skate” card to get a little bit more of some personal assistance on the date. Sneaky, sneaky. But it works. A popular location in Mississauga is Celebration Square, and Brampton boasts a couple of unique locations with Gage Park and Chinguacousy Park. Depending on which GTA city you’re in, pull up your local municipality site and search for their skating! You won’t be disappointed.Photo: Wollman Skating Rink
3. Toronto Christmas Market
An obvious date to add to the list is Toronto’s Christmas Market at the Distillery District. Daytime, nighttime – anytime! The market opened on Thursday November 15th, and will be open every day except Mondays up until the 23rd of December. Lots of restaurants in the area, but the Beer Garden is a great pit stop. Check out the hours of operation on their website listed below.

4. Festival of Lights
This is one location I’ve always wanted to go but haven’t just yet. The Niagara Winter Festival of Lights. It’s outside of the GTA, but from everything I’ve heard – it’s worth the trip! Make it even more special by going on a Friday night and checking out the fireworks show while you’re at it. Go for a stroll, avoiding the crazy tourists, and have a fun night out in Niagara. If this is passed your first date, maybe you even make a weekend out of it and check out the beauty of Niagara on the Lake!Photo: Festival of Lights

5. Do You Wanna Build A Snowman?
There’s nothing I love more than a chance to see just how much someone can let loose than by spending some time in the snow. One of my favourite winter locations is the stretch of Lakeshore in Port Credit. I’ve spent many of nights with friends going for walks down passed the lighthouse by the lake. It’s a great location – and there is a long trail that you can follow. One of the best ideas is to spend some time playing in the snow with your date, or even your friends! Build a snowman, make snow angels, and just let your inner child run free. Have fun. Be carefree. Worry less. And finish off your chilly adventure by stopping at the Starbucks on the corner to warm up with their delicious Caramel Brûlée Latte.Photo: Hallmark
Let me know if you get a chance to check out any of my top date ideas! There are so many more I could share, but I can’t give you too many options to choose from.
Enjoy – whether it’s with a significant other or even your friends! Winter is my favourite season (December baby right here) and I can’t wait to share it with everyone! You get snow! And you get snow! Everybody gets snow!
